Identifiers may include barcode, QR code, lot number, batch number, serial number or an ERP reference. The architecture and required genealogy depend on the production process and investigation needs.
Data capture
Records may be created by barcode or QR scans, operator confirmation, machine data or system transactions. Manual checkpoints should be used only where the process cannot supply the required information automatically.
Integration
ERP, MES, WMS or existing databases may supply material masters, work orders and identifiers. The traceability application can return status, consumption or completion records through an agreed interface.
Deployment considerations
Define the trace unit, capture points, rework rules, label ownership, offline behaviour, record retention and search expectations before development. Local deployment is available when required by plant operations or IT policy.
